Any long-term, sustainable solution to hunger must involve work to feed the line of people seeking help and shorten it. Second Harvest’s Culinary Training Program has been doing just that for ten years.
The Second Harvest Culinary Training Program is a continuing education opportunity offering adults facing barriers to employment the culinary and life skills training that will provide the foundation for a sustainable and successful career in the culinary industry. The 16-week program is free of charge.
Immersive Experiences
From field trips to hands-on experiences in the Darden Foundation Community Kitchen, the opportunity to learn from top instructors and industry veterans is a hallmark of the Culinary Training Program. Each class participates in different experiences such as fruit carving, butchery, cake decorating and more.
From Knife Skills to Life Skills
Perfecting knife skills is only the beginning. The secret to the Culinary Training Program is the life skills component, where students learn and practice goal setting, teamwork, communication, budgeting, resume writing and interviewing skills.
A Bright Future
Over the last decade, more than 440 students graduated from the program. Second Harvest’s strong connections within the local food service industry continue to create bridges for graduates to connect with major employers and launch successful careers.
Each student hears, “Windshields are big and rearview mirrors are small.” That’s not to say the past is insignificant. Our lives are a mix of different experiences that mold us. The challenge is to look ahead to what the future holds.
With your support, the next ten years in the Culinary Training Program look brighter than ever.
