When we think about the holidays, no matter what we celebrate, there is one thing everyone has in common…food. We celebrate with food, we congregate around food. Food and the holidays go hand in hand. Now picture your family holiday gathering without the food. It is a bit different, right?
Thanks to our talented friends at WESH2 News and their generous viewers, hundreds of thousands of our neighbors were able to have a special holiday because they had enough food to feed their families. The WESH2 New’s 31st Annual Share Your Christmas Food and Funds Drive brought in over $147,000 and 57,000 pounds of food to share with our neighbors in need. In food bank math, this equals 637,000 meals!
We heard beautiful and heartbreaking stories of people donating in honor of a loved one who had passed. We saw folks brave bad weather to bring in their donation.
We also had philanthropic businesses challenge schools to match each one of the cans their donate with $1 up to $10,000.
Seeing the community come together like this is truly what the holidays are all about.
Thank you so much to WESH2 News, especially to the incredible Marcie Golgoski, Jason Guy and Mike Kirby, and all of the Wesh anchors,
all the sponsors and schools who joined us, and of course, everyone who donated. You made the holidays bright for many people in Central Florida. Thank you for sharing your Christmas!
