Six days a week, hardworking and dedicated volunteers at Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida lend their time and helping hands to the fight against hunger. High school students fulfill scholarship hours while sorting food donations. Corporate groups build camaraderie with each box packed. Retirees make new friends while preparing meals for kids.
Volunteers, supporters, and caring people like you make it possible to distribute 250,000 meals daily through more than 500 feeding partners across Central Florida. Places like food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, community centers, and other nonprofit organizations located in neighborhoods across six counties ensure food resources are easily accessible to neighbors like Justina.
Justina nearly broke into tears when she experienced your generosity. An expression of worry gave way to relief as she took one look over her shoulder to the seats her children usually occupy. She choked up at the sight of canned vegetables, cereal, chicken, fresh fruits and vegetables, bread, milk, and eggs — everything she needed to prepare meals for her kids — overflowing from bags sitting in the backseat.
Receiving these groceries today means I have enough to pay rent next month,” Justina explains.
A rent increase, paired with a recent emergency room visit, has forced her to make difficult choices. “Without you, I don’t know what we would have done. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.”
Every action you take makes a tremendous difference to families facing hunger this summer. From dishing out meals for kids at Mercy Kitchen to packing nonperishable food boxes, thank you.
