Summer is a time for sun and fun.
It is also a time of uncertainty for kids whose families are overwhelmed by inflated costs of living. Nearly half of Central Florida households live paycheck to paycheck, making it challenging to afford higher prices for housing, gas and groceries.
You brighten summer days for growing kids and anxious parents. Your support of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida enables a fleet of refrigerated trailers to traverse local roads and highways to deliver nutritious meals and snacks to kids in rural communities and under-resourced neighborhoods.
Active kids like Taylor and Layla do not have to worry about lunch or snacks to fuel their summer fun. They receive free meals at one of 65 community centers, parks and recreation sites supported by Second Harvest.
“You can see how excited they are about the meals,” says Quinn Byrd, director at Midway Safe Harbor, as the girls devour a chicken taco with black bean salsa.
“My favorite part is the fruit,” says Taylor. “And being with my friends.”
“I like it when we have chicken and tacos,” says Layla.
After lunch, it’s back to dancing the cha-cha slide, dashing across the playground and creating crafts. For 10 fun-filled weeks this summer, kids can be kids, thanks to you.
