A very special celebration was in order for the amazing team at WESH 2 after the station implemented three specialty telethons in addition to their annual Giving Tuesday and Share Your Christmas efforts. Through these initiatives, which were in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, WESH raised over $2.4 million to help support our neighbors in need. That’s over 9.6 million meals that were provided to children, families, and seniors facing hunger insecurity in Central Florida. Talk about an incredible impact!
We are so grateful for the team at WESH that works tirelessly to educate our community on the issue of hunger in Central Florida and how we all can work together to solve it. To Amanda Dukes, Jason Guy, Michelle Imperato, Claire Metz, Stewart Moore, Jim Payne, Jacob Wiklund and everyone else with WESH that works so hard both on and off-screen to share Second Harvest’s mission – THANK YOU! You all were an instrumental part in making the fundraising efforts a success and helping provide millions of meals to those in our community who need help the most right now. We can’t thank you enough for being such incredible advocates for our neighbors in need.
One of our favorite phone calls to receive is from Executive Producer Marcie Golgoski, especially when we answer and hear her voice say “I have an idea….” Every year we are impressed by Marcie’s commitment and passion for Giving Tuesday and Share Your Christmas, but this last year has absolutely blown us out of the water. We could never have imagined raising $1.1 million in one day! But because of Marcie, it happened. And that was just the beginning.
Every effort over the last year during the pandemic has required innovation, persistence, and dedication – attributes that are synonymous with Marcie. We’ve gotten to witness Marcie work tirelessly to help our neighbors. She’s always the first to show up at an event. the last to leave and is constantly working behind the scenes and putting forth her best effort for every initiative. The best part of this? We know it’s not for the accolades or recognition, which she often shies away from. It’s because she has the heart for serving those in need in Central Florida, and wants to look out for her neighbors.
We celebrate and thank Marcie for being Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida’s Ultimate Community Champion. For living and breathing our partnership and mission. We are forever grateful for everything you have done and continue to do to help in the fight against hunger. We appreciate you more than we could put into words!
Of course, none of this would happen without the support of the WESH 2 News station for using their platform to spread the word about hunger relief in Central Florida and encouraging our community to get involved. Because of WESH, more people are joining us in our efforts, and hundreds of thousands of lives in our community have been changed for the better. Thank you for going the extra 2.4 million miles and lending your voices and efforts to join us in the fight against hunger in Central Florida! We appreciate you all!
