When Walt Disney World Resort closed its Orlando theme parks amid growing concerns about the coronavirus, they turned that somber moment into a hope-filled one in the form of meals for Central Floridians experiencing food insecurity, many for the very first time. A regular donor of food, funds and volunteer hours, Walt Disney World delivered a variety of prepared foods, milk, and fresh fruits and vegetables to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida – enough to provide 18,085 meals!
At a time when grocery store shelves have been overrun and thousands of local works are facing reduced hours, or no hours, this donation will help fill bellies and warm hearts. By not sending this food to a landfill, it will instead be distributed to local shelters and community meal programs as part of Second Harvest’s 550-member feeding partner network.
