Ready for it? Two “Fearless” Swifties have “Karma” on their side after raising funds beyond their “Wildest Dreams” to fight hunger in Central Florida!!!
The New Orleans sixth-graders entered their giving era with their Virtual Food Drive inspired by their trip to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour stop in their city this fall.
Charlotte,12, and Cecelia, 11, supported Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida because Floridians were recovering from hurricanes Helene and Milton.
“In Louisiana, we’ve experienced hurricanes, so we know what it’s like,” Charlotte said.
In honor of Taylor’s favorite number, the girls set their fundraising goal at $1,313, which they exceeded. All told, the money raised by their drive will provide 6,680 meals to Central Florida families facing hunger.
“It’s really important,” Cecelia said. “Some people don’t have as much food as they need, and we’re fortunate.”
“Some (Florida) homes flooded, and people didn’t have any extra money for food when their fridges didn’t work,” Charlotte added.
They created a video to promote their fundraiser, including Taylor Swift music and the girls in Eras-inspired outfits out and about in New Orleans to welcome fans to the Crescent City. Watch their creativity below.
It was shared by local news stations and public officials, as well as Second Harvest’s own social media channels. Charlotte and Cecelia said the popular video helped them exceed their goal.
“It was almost all new people we’ve never met,” Cecelia said of the donors. “It felt good.”
Taylor Swift’s philanthropy and kindness were their inspiration, the girls agreed.
“She’s a very good example, and she’s very generous,” Cecelia said. “And we wanted to help, too.”
Taylor has donated to food banks located in the communities of her Eras Tour stops, as well as to support disaster relief work following hurricanes Harvey, Helene and Milton.
Charlotte and Cecilia don’t plan to stop serving their community and fighting hunger anytime soon and encourage others to do the same.
“You don’t have to be an adult to do something,” Cecelia said. “You can still do it when you’re still a kid.”
The girls plan to continue fighting hunger by volunteering at their local food bank and raising funds again.
“It was definitely a good experience,” Charlotte said.
