Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is gearing up for another fun and productive summer of volunteering. Here is everything you need to know to make the summer exciting and impactful.
1. We need you!
We need you! Second Harvest Food Bank relies on the generous support of volunteers to maintain peak efficiency. Millions of dollars in labor cost is saved thanks to the hard work of outstanding individuals and groups. These dollars are then reinvested right back into the mission of fighting hunger.
2. There are multiple opportunities.
There are multiple opportunities. The food bank has many options to help focus your time and talent. The distribution center needs donation sorters, the production kitchen needs meal preppers, and our branches need order pickers. All of these opportunities provide a chance to impact Central Florida.
3. The Food Bank website is the best place to find out more information.
The Food Bank website is the best place to find out more information. The first step is to create a volunteer profile. This profile is the ticket that grants you admission to the many volunteer opportunities available.
4. It is more fun with a friend.
It is more fun with a friend. Whether you bring a friend or make a friend, volunteering at the food bank is a great way to create lasting summer memories while stacking pallets or filling lunch trays.
5. 10 is an important number
10 is an important number for the food bank (more on that later). It is the age requirement for minors to volunteer with a parent, guardian or adult chaperone. Summer fun should be for the whole family, and volunteering is no exception.
6. We offer six days of volunteer opportunities throughout the week.
We offer six days of volunteer opportunities throughout the week. We want to allow as many volunteers as possible to share in our mission. Volunteer events are offered Monday through Saturday and select weeknight evenings.
7. We will show you how!
We will show you how! Before every volunteer activity, our friendly staff will share all the necessary information to succeed. Feel free to ask questions or for help, and our team or a Volunteer Captain will be glad to assist.
8. The vibes are great.
The vibes are great. We want you to stay hydrated and motivated, so we provide lots of drinking water and fun music to keep the day going!
9. The impact you make is measurable and immediate.
The impact you make is measurable and immediate. After each volunteer event, we like to celebrate your accomplishments, so stay around to find out how many pounds you sorted or the meals you packed. These numbers represent a direct impact on our neighbors facing hunger.
10. Ten is the number of meals many school-age children in Central Florida will miss weekly while on summer break.
Finally, we are back at ten again. Ten is the number of meals many school-age children in Central Florida will miss weekly while on summer break. This summer, you can do your part to help kids and families receive healthy, delicious food through volunteerism.
We can’t wait to see you at the food bank!
