Last month, hunger advocates across Central Florida participated in Hunger Action Month, a nationwide effort to take action in the fight against hunger. Throughout September, people like you highlighted the impact of food on peoples’ lives and showed how a meal goes beyond solely feeding our bodies. Access to nutritious food is essential for each of us to reach our full potential. Together, we can all help to create positive change in our communities to ensure that no one goes hungry in Central Florida.
This past September was no different! We challenged our community to take action – big or small. Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida would like to thank the dedicated community partners who helped engage and inspire our community to speak out against hunger. Thanks to YOU for sporting your orange to raise awareness, attending one of our events, and lending your voice to help shed some light on those facing hunger in Central Florida.
Here are a few highlights from Hunger Action Month this year:
- All seven counties in our hunger relief network united with proclamations declaring September 2023 Hunger Action Month.
- September 15th marked Hunger Action Day, and landmarks across the City of Orlando and Orlando Eye all lit up orange to represent the color of hunger.
- Community partners such as Kelly’s Homemade Ice Cream, The Fresh Market, Kendra Scott, 4 Rivers Smokehouse, My Smart Shirt, and more hosted events to generate funds to help our neighbors facing hunger.
Thank you, Hunger Heroes. Your volunteerism, advocacy, financial support, and food drives continue to impact the lives of thousands of your neighbors. You all came together to provide hope for children, families, and seniors in our community facing hunger. Thank YOU for caring.
There’s still time to take action this fall:
- Donate: Every dollar donated helps to provide four meals for Central Florida neighbors facing hunger.
- Volunteer: Volunteer opportunities offer fun and unique ways for individuals and groups to contribute their time, talents, and resources to help fight hunger in tangible, hands-on ways.
- Start a Virtual Food Drive: Start a virtual food drive today and encourage your friends, family, and co-workers to help provide meals for families this holiday season.
- Take a Tour: Go behind the scenes in our main Orlando distribution center to learn more about elevated hunger relief efforts in Central Florida.
- Stay Connected: Use the hashtag #feedhopenow on social media to share how you fight hunger and encourage others to get involved.
Thank you for caring. Thank you for sharing. Thank you for taking action in the fight against hunger.
