Congress is debating what to include in upcoming budget reconciliation legislation that could expand lifesaving anti-hunger programs. But those programs are on the chopping block right now!
An estimated 120,000 Central Florida children are at-risk of going to bed hungry tonight. They rely on crucial anti-hunger programs to grow, learn and thrive. We urge Congress to ensure that any budget reconciliation legislation MUST include funding to expand hunger-fighting programs:
- Extend and expand the Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) program to ensure that this important program can continue to operate during summer and for future school closings;
- Extend the temporary increase in the Child Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit to provide families with children and working adults with additional critical economic resources;
- Expand the Community Eligibility Program by increasing funding, lowering the eligibility threshold and expanding automatic enrollment to provide free school breakfast and lunch to even more Central Florida children in our schools;
- Lastly, increase funds for the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) federal food purchases to help food banks meet the need for food assistance in their communities, including Central Florida. We urge Congress to support an additional $900 million for these food purchases so food banks can help families and children get nutritious food they need through our network of feeding partners like churches and other organizations.
Lend your voice and tell your member of Congress and Senators why they must prioritize our nation’s most important hunger-fighting programs.
