Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is responding to the thousands of kids, seniors and families struggling to keep food on their tables as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and inviting you to join #GivingTuesdayNow for a day of giving and unity.
#GivingTuesdayNow is set to take place on May 5, 2020, as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. The day is designed to drive an influx of generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy, activation, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world. At a time when we are all experiencing the pandemic, generosity is what brings people of all races, faiths, and political views together across the globe.
Generosity gives everyone power to make a positive change in the lives of others and is a fundamental value anyone can act on. It’s a day for everyone around the world to stand together and give back in all ways, no matter who or where we are. Some ways to share your generosity with others to fight hunger and feed hope:
- Give a gift of hope. For every $10 donated to Second Harvest Food Bank, 40 meals can be provided to a child, senior or family in need.
- Host a virtual food drive. Invite your friends, family, neighbors or co-workers to join you in a safe, secure and socially distanced virtual food drive. Funds collected will help provide hunger relief for your neighbors in need.
- Share on social media. Share a Second Harvest Food Bank photo, fact or story on social media using the hashtag #FeedHopeNow. You can find us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.
- Complete the 2020 Census. When you respond to the Census, you help our community for years to come.
“As a global community, we can mourn this moment of extreme crisis while also finding the opportunity to support one another. We each have the power to make an impact with acts of generosity, no matter how small, and to ensure the sustainability of organizations and services that are crucial to the care and support of our communities,” said Asha Curran, CEO of GivingTuesday.
