Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida recently kicked-off the first ever meeting of the newly formed Young Professionals Group.
With 24 new members ranging from 21 to 40 years old, the evening started off with a networking happy hour in Second Harvest’s meat sorting area. Afterwards, Second Harvest board member Ricky Ly shared why he felt strongly about bringing young professionals in our community into the fold of Second Harvest to fight hunger.
Members of the Young Professionals Group will have the opportunity to support the Food Bank through volunteering their time, talents and voice while growing as young professionals and community leaders. However, it does come with some added benefits! All members receive a 10% discount to two major events – Wine Women & Shoes and Taste of Central Florida.
We ended the night with a competition between three groups to see who could bag the most sweet potatoes that were recently donated by a local farmer for our Central Florida families. Together, the Young Professionals sorted through 1,700 pounds of sweet potatoes! A huge feat for only 45 minutes of volunteering.
