As the days turn ever warmer, I think about the children across Central Florida looking forward to summer break. This is their time to play and explore outside and just be kids.
My mind also turns to the one in five kids who likely rely on school lunch and breakfast programs as one of their primary forms of nutrition. Without those consistent meals, their cash-strapped parents must find a way to buy more food when grocery prices already seem to empty their wallets each week.
Consider the urgency of the situation. Parents will skip meals to make up for the difference. Workers will perform tasks on empty stomachs. Children will miss the nourishment they need to grow and thrive. When our neighbors go to bed hungry, our whole community suffers.
I hope you can feel the difference you are making for hardworking families and children through your steadfast support of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. With your help, the Food Bank provided enough food for 76 million meals last year.
I also hope that you can celebrate your role in making that possible as you read the impact stories below. Your generosity matters.
Thank you so much!
