Each year, Hunger Heroes come together in September to celebrate Hunger Action Month alongside Feeding America and Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. This year’s theme, “Full Effect,” emphasizes how food nourishes the body and the future—transforming lives from surviving to thriving.
This September was no different! Advocates across Central Florida pledged to achieve one million actions against hunger. These actions included donating food and funds, volunteering at Second Harvest’s main distribution center or Mercy Kitchen, and spreading awareness of hunger issues in our community. While each individual action might seem small, together, they form a powerful movement capable of changing lives. Community members rallied to engage, inspire, and encourage the public!
Highlights of Central Florida’s Unity Against Hunger
Hunger Action Day (September 10)
Advocates donned their best orange while the city of Orlando illuminated The Kia Center Spire, Lake Eola Fountain, Lake Lorna Doone Park Fountain, and the Orlando Eye in solidarity with the color of hunger. Local newsrooms also went orange and hosted interviews with Second Harvest representatives to inspire viewers to take action.
Proclamations Across Central Florida
Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida serves neighbors facing hunger in Brevard, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia counties. All seven counties, united in our shared purpose, declared September 2024 as Hunger Action Month.
Community Partnerships
Incredible partners like Kendra Scott, Ten10 Brewing, and Tijuana Flats hosted fundraising events to raise awareness and provide meals for our neighbors facing hunger. These events raised funds and brought the community together to support a common cause, showing that everyone can play a part in the fight against hunger.
Every action counts, and we are deeply thankful for our community’s commitment to making a difference. Together, we can overcome the challenge of hunger. Thank YOU for being part of this vital effort!
