There is no one face of hunger. If we have learned anything over the last forty years of fighting hunger in Central Florida, it is that hunger can disrupt the lives of anyone, anywhere and at any time.
People like you give hope to children, working adults and seniors experiencing hunger in Central Florida. Your support provides nutritious meals for our neighbors to thrive.
Expanding Horizons
“When a student has a balanced meal, a nutritious meal, they’re not hungry and they’re ready to learn,” says Quinn Byrd, director at Midway Safe Harbor, one of Second Harvest’s Kids Cafe sites.
Students come to his after-school program for tutoring, recreation, and food. Over snacks and warm suppers, kids build relationships and expand their horizons.
Stocking the Shelves
“I’m diabetic and use SNAP to buy the things that are good for my health,” says Rosa, a senior living in Seminole County. “If I spend all the money on vegetables, there’s nothing left.”
Fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and low-sodium foods are costly, especially on a limited budget. Rosa visits a local food pantry to stock her pantry and refrigerator.
“I’m very grateful for all the support I get from you.”
Caring for Caregivers
“I went to buy a head of lettuce the other day,” Laurie explains. “They wanted $4 for a head of lettuce. I can’t afford that.”
As the sole caregiver for her aging mother and grandson, she stresses about being able to afford medicine, her electric bill and put food on the table.
Thanks to people like you, Laurie and her family receive the nutritious food they need at a food pantry supplied by Second Harvest Food Bank.
“You’ve been a blessing to my family and many families. Thank you.”
