With the launch of HCA Florida Healthcare unifying more than 450 sites of care across Florida, HCA Florida Healthcare colleagues in Central Florida are celebrating the announcement through a multifaceted initiative to fight food insecurity during National Nutrition Month.
HCA Florida Healthcare’s mission is: “Above all else, we are dedicated to the care and improvement of human life.” As a mission-driven organization, HCA Florida Healthcare strives to address the critical needs of the community such as food insecurity. Feeding America estimates that in 2021, one in seven people and one in five children in Central Florida lived in households that may be food insecure.
To help meet this need, the hospital is partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida during National Nutrition Month in March to host a food and fund drive, volunteer and launch a community-wide donation effort to raise additional funds to support the food bank’s mission.
On March 4, each of the five HCA Florida Healthcare hospitals in the Orlando area drove a cargo van, branded with their new hospital logos, filled with food donations to present to Second Harvest to help provide food to families experiencing hunger. On the same day, 40 HCA Florida Healthcare colleagues spent the afternoon volunteering at Second Harvest to assist with the critical needs of the community.
You can get involved by looking for the HCA Florida family at events throughout the community during the month of March. Community members are encouraged to find one of the branded hospital vans, snap a picture, post it on social media with #HCAFloridaFeedingFamilies in the caption and tag HCA Florida Healthcare. For each photo shared, HCA will donate $5 to Second Harvest, up to $10,000.
Thank you, HCA Florida Healthcare for finding so many ways to help fight hunger and feed hope during National Nutrition Month.
