A “food bank double-whammy” is how a recent front page story in Orlando Sentinel described the rise in inflation and demand for food assistance in Central Florida. In July, over 7,400 people visited Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida’s Food Finder tool in search of emergency food assistance for themselves and their families. That’s a 97% increase over July 2021.
“Our families were already close to being pushed over the tipping point. Increasing rent and high gas prices are just intensifying the need for food assistance,” Derrick Chubbs shared as part of the story.
