This year’s hardships and tough economic times continue to affect children, families, and seniors in our community.
Brian, a 6-year-old from Sanford, went from listless to excited when he saw his mom walk through the door with boxes of food from a Second Harvest Food Bank feeding partner. He helped his mom make a stack of one breakfast and one lunch box for each of his brothers and himself on the dining room table.
He triumphantly held up a wrapped peanut butter and jelly sandwich and proclaimed, “This is MY Thanksgiving!”
Then he rushed down the hall to his bedroom, where he placed the sandwich in a secure location for safekeeping. Unsure of whether there would be a big family celebration this year, Brian made sure he had something set aside for the upcoming holiday.
