“I find a lot of joy in knowing I am helping others,” says Bob, a retired high school choral teacher.
Spending his winter seasons here in Central Florida and summers in New York, Bob enjoys the sunshine Central Florida provides and volunteering with local organizations that support children in the community, including A Gift for Teaching, Give Kids the World and Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.
Beginning his journey at the food bank as a financial contributor, Bob decided to do more to fight against hunger, especially for children and families. He started making a hands-on difference by being a dedicated weekly volunteer. That was four years ago, and he keeps coming back.
As a former teacher, Bob understands how nutrition impacts a student’s ability to learn and thrive. He empathizes with parents and students facing food insecurity and finds fulfillment in knowing that his actions make a direct difference in the lives of others.
“My efforts are helping somebody,” Bob says with confidence.
The efficiency of the Food Bank is something Bob finds notable and admirable. In fact, thanks to volunteers, food and financial contributors, feeding partners and other community supporters working together, more than 96% of donations received go directly to feeding people.
Thanks to Bob and others in our caring community, more individuals, families and children have access to the nutritious meals they need to work, learn and thrive.
