As if three telethons in the last year and a half weren’t enough, WESH 2 was back at it again this December for the 36th Annual Giving Tuesday and Share Your Christmas events. Each year WESH 2 calls upon our community to help our neighbors through a food and fund drive, and in true Central Florida fashion, the community tuned in and showed up in a huge way!
The 36th Annual Share Your Christmas kicked off with the annual Giving Tuesday Telethon on Tuesday, November 30. Thanks to a very generous gift of $30,000 from Mullinax Ford, a $60,000 match from The Glenda B. Morgan Charitable Foundation, and so many of our friends in the community donating, $496,200 was raised in a single day. This doubled the anticipated goal! How incredible is that?!
Of course, our incredible Central Florida community did not stop there with their generosity. The following week, WESH 2 was broadcasting live each morning in a different Central Florida county, encouraging our neighbors to swing by and drop off food or funds to help those in our community who are facing hunger. Overall, an additional $106,538 and over 54,000 pounds of food were collected throughout the week of Share Your Christmas! That is the equivalent of over 2.4 million meals that will help children, families, and seniors in Central Florida this holiday season. Thank YOU to each and every one of you who contributed to making this happen. Please watch the video recap below to see your generosity in action.
On behalf of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and those we serve, we’d like to give a very special thank you to Mullinax Ford and The Glenda G. Morgan Charitable Foundation for their incredible Giving Tuesday matches, and Dunkin Donuts for being the amazing title sponsor for Share Your Christmas. Not only did Dunkin Donuts provide 100,000 meals for our community, but also provided fresh coffee and treats for all the volunteers working so hard to make Share Your Christmas a success! We’d also like to thank Daytona International Speedway, The Brevard Zoo, Starling Chevrolet, Deluca Toyota and especially everyone who volunteered, tuned in, gave us a call, visited a donation site, and donated to the cause!
We at Second Harvest Food Bank are so grateful for the team at WESH 2 for their tireless efforts to educate our community on the issue of hunger here in Central Florida, and for inspiring everyone to share their Christmas. Thank you all for giving the gift of hope this holiday season!
