Global healthcare company Abbott, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, and Feeding America recently combined forces to prepare for the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season.
On Friday, May 10, more than 20 dedicated Abbott employee volunteers from the company’s Orlando diagnostics facility played a crucial role in assembling 1,000 “Abbott Disaster Relief Packs.” Each box is designed to meet a family’s immediate nutritional needs for three days and does not require warming or refrigeration. The packs contain Abbott nutrition products, such as nutritional bars, Ensure and PediaSure nutrition drinks for adults and children, and Pedialyte rehydration solutions.
Stored at Second Harvest until needed, the Abbott Disaster Relief Packs (500 for families of two and 500 for families of four) are ready to be deployed when disaster strikes. This rapid response provides a first wave of aid to families impacted by a disaster, ensuring their immediate nutritional needs are met.
Now in its seventh year, the partnership with Abbott, Second Harvest, and Feeding America demonstrates a commitment to disaster preparation and relief efforts in Florida. Nationally, Abbott and Feeding America have been united in the disaster pack initiative since 2006, providing more than 660,000 people with much-needed nutrition following a hurricane, tornado, or other disaster.
