Providing meals for families and kids is an act of pure kindness. Thank you for being part of a community that cares enough to make sure families and kids facing hunger have enough food on their tables. Thank you for giving them a hope-filled summer!
66 Summer Sites
Second Harvest’s Summer Food Service Program hit the road in June to deliver fresh, healthy meals to kids. The program served children at over 66 summer camps, daycare centers, parks, libraries and other programs across five Central Florida counties all summer long. A few highlights:
- 207,073 meals were served for free to kids ages 18 and under
- 85,902 seven-day boxes provided breakfast and lunch for an entire week for kids who stayed home this summer
- Second Harvest trailers travelled 41,226 miles to deliver breakfast, lunch and snacks – that’s enough to travel Interstate 4 from one end to the other 312 times!
Over 14 Million Meals
Second Harvest and its network of 550 feeding partners were out in force this summer to distribute 14.6 million meals to kids and families at food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters. One way this feat is accomplished is through mobile food drops. This summer 107 mobile drops distributed fresh produce, meats, dairy and pantry staples in food deserts, rural areas and communities of color.
43 Culinary Training Students Graduated
While most students were out of school, Second Harvest’s Culinary Training Program was in full swing. These economically disadvantaged adults spent the summer learning the professional and life skills needed to secure new, sustainable careers. In June, 43 students graduated. By investing in their education and training, you are helping our hospitality and foodservice industries reopen and recover.
All of this was accomplished because of your kindness and generosity. Thanks to you and your financial donations, Virtual Food Drives, and volunteerism, local students and families across Central Florida are entering the new school year filled with hope.
