It only takes a slight rent increase, an unexpected expense like a flat tire, or a visit to the emergency room to cause a family to face the unthinkable: hunger. For one in eight Central Floridians, that’s the reality.
Sania and her family moved out of Orlando last year to find more stable housing in Lake County. That meant paying deposits, finding new jobs and settling into new schools. Some days, it felt like too much.
“Everybody goes through hard times, and right now, that’s my family,” says Sania.
One day, a customer came through her checkout line at work and wished her a happy holiday. She bravely shared that she didn’t think it would be. He invited her to a local food pantry where he volunteered and helped her load her car with all the fixings for a holiday meal, plus produce, meat, milk and pantry items to get through the holiday break. Her kids especially loved the fresh fruit and cereal.
“Seeing that people are helping each other is a good thing,” says Sania, adding, “Every little bit counts.”
Thank you for caring. Thank you for sharing. Thank you for making a difference for families like Sania’s.
