Share Your Christmas

If you are like me, you dread having to wake up very early in the morning. But there is 1 week a year when I don’t mind the 3 am wake up call. In fact, I look forward to it!

Want to know why? 83,562 pounds of food and over $15,000 in financial donations. That’s why! All Thanks to WESH’s  Share Your Christmas Food and Fund Drive.

The 26th annual Share Your Christmas food drive took place in 6 counties here in Central Florida on December 12-16th. Each day the WESH news crew showed up bright and early to inform our community where and when to drop off their donations.

What is really neat about this food drive is all the different individuals and groups you get to meet throughout the day. Like this guy!

A lot of businesses or groups will collect their non perishables beforehand and drop them off together at Share Your Christmas. The Student Government Association of Boone High School led their school food drive. They delivered over 5,000 pounds of food donations on Friday morning to the WESH Studios!

Also who can forget Star Child Academy? They received a challenge from a Second Harvest Food Bank board member. The challenge was if they could raise more than 20,000 lbs of food, he would donate an additional $5,000! Guess what? Not only did they reach their goal…they hit it out of the park! StarChild Academy brought in close to 30,000 pounds of food for the Share Your Christmas food drive. Plus we were presented a check for the $5,000! Pretty amazing. How cute are they??

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who donated throughout the week, our incredible volunteers who worked early morning hours to help box up the food, and of course all of the wonderful folks at WESH. All of these people really and truly SHARED THEIR CHRISTMAS with our neighbors in need.
