September is Hunger Action Month!
Every September, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and Food Banks across the nation participate in Hunger Action Month. During this time we ask our communities to lend their voice and spread the word about hunger.
Thank you for lending us your voice this September 2016!
This September during Hunger Action Month we asked for help from our community and did you all ever pull through!
We want to start off by saying THANK YOU to every single person that took part in our Skip a Meal Challenge. You skipped meals, donated your lunch money and provided 23,612 meals to our neighbors in need! That is no small feat.
A very special thank you to our donor who generously matched every donation dollar for dollar during the Skip a Meal Challenge, and the City of Winter Park and the City of Orlando and anyone else who helped spread the word about the Challenge. Because of all of you, so many children, families, and seniors in our Central Florida community do not have to worry about where there next meal will come from. Way to go Skip a Meal Challengers!
We would also like to give a shout out to Black Rooster Taqueria! Every Tuesday throughout the month of September, Black Rooster Taqueria donated 10% of dinner sales to Second Harvest, (in addition to providing delicious food to customers). We’re so grateful for this partnership, and loved having Black Rooster Taqueria as our official Hunger Hero restaurant throughout Hunger Action Month!
Of course, many thanks also to Five Guys, Menchie’s Winter Park, Chick-fil-A South Orange Ave, and O’Neill for throwing proceeds nights for Second Harvest! We are so appreciative of our Community Partners for helping us get the word about the need out, and for their help supporting the cause.
Whether you took the Skip a Meal Challenge, joined us for Sunday Funday Brunch or at one of our proceeds nights, wore orange on Hunger Action Day or participated in the 30 Ways in 30 Days calendar, YOU made a difference. Thank you for helping us spread the word about the issue of Hunger in Central Florida. Let’s keep it up all year round! Together we can solve Hunger.
P.S. Make sure to stay tuned for all the events the food bank has coming up this fall!
