Thanksgiving can be a heartwarming holiday, but also a heartbreaking time of year. Many gather this time of year with turkey, pie, and all the trimmings at the center of their celebration. Meanwhile, kids, families and seniors experiencing hunger struggle to afford necessities like rent, utilities, and even food.
Extreme challenges this year brought on by the pandemic mean that more households than ever won’t be able to put a meal on their tables, let alone a celebratory one like Thanksgiving dinner. For these families, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and its feeding partner network is a lifeline.
“We know that up to 50% of the people we’re helping have never sought assistance before,” Second Harvest President/CEO Dave Krepcho recently told The Orlando Sentinel.
Since mid-March, Second Harvest has distributed 300,000 meals a day to furloughed and unemployed workers and their families. This effort will continue into the holiday season, and beyond, with your help.
Join the season of giving this November and have your gift of hope matched by the Windermere Wine & Dine. While the event has been canceled for 2021, the community investment and generosity of the event continues.
“While the event is on hold, our mission is not,” explains CT Allen, event organizer. “Our wish is for everyone to be safe and stay healthy.”
Match your gift this Thanksgiving.
Your $10 gift can provide 80 meals until November 30.
