As you may recall, 2019 started with a partial government shutdown. While you advocated to end the shutdown that affected thousands of Central Florida families, Second Harvest was able to deliver truckloads of food to help federal workers and SNAP recipients in their time of need. Thanks to your efforts, the longest government shutdown in history finally come to an end in mid-January.
You also helped raise awareness about the 1 in 5 Central Florida kids at-risk of going to bed hungry tonight and solutions to fight childhood hunger.
Thanks to you, over 500 comments, postcards and pledges of support were shared with our representatives in Tallahassee and Washington, DC. Community leaders even joined you in sharing sparks of hope during the “What’s Your Spark?” campaign.
I hope that in 2020 you will resolve to lend your voice on behalf of the most vulnerable in Central Florida. This will include advocating for funding for the Culinary Training Program at the state level, encouraging everyone to be counted in the 2020 census and, lastly, fighting hunger with your vote during the elections. Thank you for caring,
