BJ’s Wholesale celebrated the grand opening of their brand new Port Orange Club on Friday, October 4th, and we were there to celebrate with them!
Our Volusia Branch Manager, Bob Thomas, attended the festivities, which included an adorable BJ’s rap song performed by Spruce Creek Elementary, BJ’s local Adopt-a-School partner, along with the ceremonial breaking of bread – BJ’s unique twist on a traditional ribbon cutting. Bob also accepted a $2,000 donation, on behalf of the food bank, from the BJ’s Charitable Foundation. Three Second Harvest Food Bank partner agencies were also recipients of BJ’s charitable donations: Halifax Urban Ministries, the Jewish Federation and Art Haus Foundation.
Second Harvest Food Bank has been a proud partner of BJ’s Feeding Communities Program since its launch in 2011. Each week, the eight BJ’s clubs in our service area donate wholesome and nutritious unsold food to the food bank. To-date, BJ’s has donated over 600,000 lbs of food in Central Florida, and over 12 million pounds of food nationally!
BJ’s Team Members are truly heroes in the fight against hunger. Prior to the club’s opening, a team from the Port Orange club took time out from their busy schedule to tour our Volusia branch, and then stayed after to volunteer!
Thank you, BJ’s, we are so happy to have you join our Volusia family!
