Volunteers Collected 10,000+ Lbs. at UNFI Food Showcase

You may know that Orlando is home to one of the largest convention centers in the country, with ample convention space at additional hotels and resorts throughout the region. In addition to meetings, conventions an conferences for amusement park operators, electronics, home and garden shows and other events, each year several food industry shows come to town.

A food show is just like any other industry trade show where attendees can taste, see and experience new products. At the end of a food show, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and a crew of volunteers will collect any remaining food displays to be distributed to local feeding partners. Volunteers walk the aisles with carts and boxes to collect cans, packages and other items like bottled water, that would otherwise end up in the trash.

Thanks to partners at United Natural Foods and a team of 20 volunteers, including a group from Sheraton Vistana Resort, 10,084 pounds of food was rescued after the recent UNFI South Atlantic Showcase held at Loews Sapphire Falls.
