It’s the sweetest month of all, and what better way to celebrate than to bring moms and their kids together for an afternoon of creative fun here at Second Harvest?
On February 1, we welcomed a group of Orlando-based mommy bloggers and their children for a “Mommy Love” event. The families gathered in our Community Room, where Jennifer Landress, Second Harvest’s Stewardship and Special Projects Manager, shared some information about our Culinary Training Program and our new product line, A Spoon Full of Hope. Michel’le, one of our Culinary Training Program graduates, was there with her three adorable daughters, and she told her story of how the program changed her life.
Chef Jill Holland spirited the children away for a moment to help them prepare delicious grilled cheese and Soup for Good tomato basil soup on heart-shaped plates to serve to their mothers.
The moms and their children enjoyed Chef Jill’s famous grilled cheese with our Soup for Good, along with Valentine’s Day inspired food prepared by chefs from Second Harvest Catering for Good. They loved the beef wellingtons, macaroni and cheese, and especially the BACON! Then the moms and children worked together to decorate valentines for the current class of Culinary Training Program students.
Next, the families got a tour of our warehouse, where they learned all about how volunteers process donations for distribution by our community partners. The Moms and their children topped off the evening by decorating our signature shortbread cookies with pretty Valentine’s Day decorations.
The Mommy Bloggers are helping us spread the word by sharing the A Spoon Full of Hope story on their blogs and social media. And you can help too, by purchasing A Spoon Full of Hope Products!
