Trying New Things Is Always in Style

For Abby, nutrition and healthy eating are both important and fun to talk about. She loves trying new foods and through the Summer Food Service Program, she is able to try new healthy foods every weekday this summer.

One of Abby’s favorite things is to put as many different toppings on her salads as possible. One thing she wants to try is adding a chopped up apple or other fresh fruits to add a sweet taste to one of her favorite meals. She told me that she’s willing to try anything once, and she loves most things that she tries. She also loves carrots and zucchini, which are her two favorite vegetables.

As for her meal provided and packed by volunteers at Second Harvest Food Bank, Abby wants you to know she thoroughly enjoyed her pasta with marinara. Her favorite part was the turkey meatballs, which Abby and many of her friends enjoyed dipping in the marinara. Complete with a fruit cup and a carton of milk, everyone was full and ready to continue their day of learning and play at City Church Academy after their meal.

City Church Academy is one of more than 100 summer feeding sites in the Central Florida area that serves hot meals to kids for free all summer long. The meals are fresh, hot, and meet USDA recommended servings of protein, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and dairy.

Thanks to you, Abby can continue to discover which vegetables and fruits that she loves best, as well as try new things! Your support this summer is truly making a difference for Abby and her friends at City Church Academy.
