The Impact of Volunteers

Second Harvest Food Bank volunteer groupDid you know volunteers play a huge role in everything we do at Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida?  In 2014, over 21,000 volunteers (67,000+ hours) assisted our warehouse staff in sorting and repackaging food for distribution, fundraising events, food shows, administrative work, and more.  What kind of difference did that make? That saved over $1,500,000 for the food bank, allowing us to feed more people in Central Florida!

When we built our new facility in 2013, we wanted to get the community more involved in our visionInspiring and engaging our community to end hunger.  Disney stepped up to the challenge by offering their Imagineers’ creative talent to enhance the walls of our volunteer space and surrounding areas of our warehouse.  The end result is an appealing and creative space that volunteers can come together, have fun, and do something great for our community.   Recently, a Disney artist from their Imagineering team returned and added “Hidden Mickeys” to their artwork – a scavenger hunt of sorts for our visitors.

We could not do what we do without our community partners and volunteers.  It is with your help and support that we were able to distribute enough food for 53 million meals last fiscal year – feeding more kids, seniors, and adults who otherwise would of struggled to have enough to eat.

Want to be a part of a movement, a movement to end hunger in Central Florida? Then please join us for a  ‘Food for Thought tour’ in  our new facility on 411 Mercy Drive, in Orlando.  Learn the impact of your support with each $1 donated, each canned good collected, and each hour volunteered, and let’s make 2015 a Year of Hope for the thousands of Central Floridians who have to turn to feeding programs every week.
