The Food Bank Receives “Outstanding Partners in Education” Award

2015 outstanding Partners in Education AwardEvery year, Orange County Public Schools recognizes outstanding business and community partners for their contributions to enhance educational excellence.

This May, the Community Resources Community Event was held at Sea World.

Second Harvest Food Bank received the Outstanding Partners in Education Award for positively impacting the students and community of Hiawassee Elementary School.

Outstanding Partner Awards were also presented to Wells Fargo, Colonial Life, Embry Riddle University, Sheraton Suites, The American Legion, the Hilton Bonnet Creek, and seven others.

Partnering with the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and the school, Second Harvest has been able to provide thousands of take-home food packs to the neediest of Hiawassee’s students. This school educates over 55 students whose families are homeless.

According to OCPS “The initiative to send home weekend food bags to every child in need every week is greatly appreciated; the positive impact both academically and social in the lives of the most vulnerable families is felt by all.
