The students at Hungerford Elementary School in Eatonville recently donated funds to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, and while that is no small feat for any child, the story behind their donation is even more heartfelt.

Students at Hungerford recently read “Wishtree,” the latest book by award-winning children’s author Katherine Applegate. The story is about an old oak tree that watches over the neighborhood and receives wishes from its residents tied to its branches. Publix Super Markets Raise Over $150,000 From 2016 Food For All

Publix Food for All DonationPublix Super Markets is a long-time partner with Second Harvest Food Bank, and every year they run a Food For All point-of-sale campaign over the holidays toward fighting hunger in our communities. This year, they presented checks for over $150,000!

The amount raised by Publix customers will provide over half a million more meals into Central Florida. Those meals will provide hunger relief to low-income, hard-working adults, kids, and seniors all across our community, and we appreciate every single dollar donated for them. Read More …

Publix & Hormel Partner to make another Impactful Year with Hams For Hunger

Each year from September 1st to December 31st, Publix Super Markets, Hormel® and Cure 81® partner to donate hams to those in need through the Ham’s for Hunger program.  This year on January  10th Second Harvest Food Bank received a wonderful and much-needed donation of 500 fresh Hormel Hams.

Thanks to our network of 550 partner agencies, these hams were able to be rapidly distributed into our Central Florida community.  Publix  & Hormel also partnered up in the Gainesville area to donate 500 fresh Hormel Hams to Bread of the Mighty Food Bank, extending their generous gift throughout Florida.

We cannot thank Publix Super Markets enough for this wonderful donation and their ongoing support and contributions to our Hunger Relief efforts here in Central Florida. Read More …

Thanks to our talented friends at WESH2 News and their generous viewers, hundreds of thousands of our neighbors were able to have a special holiday because they had enough food to feed their families. The WESH2 New’s 31st Annual Share Your Christmas Food and Funds Drive brought in over $147,000 and 57,000 pounds of food to share with our neighbors in need. Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit Expo Donate 258,815 lbs of Food

PMA Food Show 2016On October 14th, the Produce Marketing Association (PMA) held their annual Fresh Summit Expo at the Orange County Convention Center. At the end,  they donated 258,815 pounds of fresh, top-of-the-line produce to the food bank. That is over 6 full tractor trailer loads of rescued food, that quickly went out the doors to our feeding partners and into the delighted hands of our Central Florida neighbors in need.

“The Produce Marketing Association donation represents the single largest donation of fresh fruits and vegetables our food bank has ever received at one time,” says Dave Krepcho, president and CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. “It’s not only the massive amount of the donation, but the highly nutritious nature of the products that are the real payoff for our families in need.” Read More …

Where’s the Beef? Donation Serves as Educational Component to Culinary Training Program

Dr Phillips steer donation with Whole Foods butchersDr. Phillips Charities recently donated fresh beef in the form of two half-steer segments to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, after purchasing them at the Central Florida Fair Market Auction to support Future Farmers of America and 4-H students. In total, four steers were donated out to four local non-profit organizations: Second Harvest Food Bank, Edgewood Children’s Ranch, Harbor House, and House of Hope.

The donation served as an educational component to Second Harvest’s 14-week Culinary Training Program, which provides qualified, at-risk and economically disadvantaged adults with the culinary and life skills training needed to pursue a sustainable career in the food industry. Read More …
