Scouting for Food 2012

This past weekend, Boy Scouts of America, Second Harvest staff and volunteers helped pack up the food collected from Scouting for Food.

In case you don’t know, Scouting for Food is the nation’s largest single-day food drive. In Central Florida, it happens on the second Saturday in November. This year more than 750,000 yellow Winn-Dixie grocery bags were hung on doors throughout Central Florida. On November 10, Scouts blanketed our community and collected more than 550,000 lbs. of food!

Close to 100 of Second Harvest’s feeding partners came to pick up the food on Monday, November 12. We had a line of trucks and cars going around our main facility. We will be distributing the rest of the food during the coming weeks to more of our feeding partners.

Thank you Boy Scouts of America for teaching our youth the value of helping others and giving back to the community! And thank you Central Florida for helping our neighbors in need during this holiday season!

We hope you enjoy our Scouting for Food photo slideshow:
