Hurricane Irma affected many communities across Central Florida. Second Harvest Food Bank was able to connect with many of its feeding partners to coordinate mobile food drops in the days following the storm, including the Apopka area.
At a food drop hosted by Operation Love Outreach, people started to form a line while they waited for the delivery to arrive. One woman approached Chris, one of the organizers, to inquire about the food distribution. He could see she was visibly shaking. She explained that she had juice in her refrigerator at home but that it had spoiled in the power outage after the storm passed. Her blood sugar was so low that she drank it anyway, which caused her to feel even worse.
As they were talking a pallet of juice was unloaded from the Second Harvest Food Bank truck and she began to cry.
