Last week, a gathering of about 250 bright, energetic, make-a-difference women leaders from across the United States came to Second Harvest for a welcoming reception. The Junior League of Greater Orlando hosted the national group prior to participating in a leadership conference. If you ever want to be inspired and impressed by such a group of well-organized and focused women, just meet a Junior Leaguer!
Our relationship with the Junior League of Greater Orlando has made such a difference in our mission. They partner with us around childhood food security and have a wonderful program at Rock Lake Elementary school called “HIP Kids”. Junior League volunteers meet with the students and share how to eat and live healthy as well as being a mentor. Healthy foods are also made possible through the Junior League. Second Harvest is fortunate to benefit from some of the proceeds of the annual Junior League of Greater Orlando Harvest Hustle, many volunteers during the year as well as having Allison Hudson and Kate Martin serve on our Board of Directors.
The group‘s reception was held in our distribution area and catered by our Community Kitchen. A fun time was had by all! Thank you Junior League for the difference you’ve made across the country and across the years.
