Last month, Congressman Darren Soto (FL-09) visited one of our feeding partners during their distribution in the heart of his district, St. Rose of Lima in Kissimmee. He was joined by Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez, a colleague from New York. A surprising number of clients were previously constituents of Congresswoman Velazquez.
After speaking with clients waiting to receiving assistance, we took a tour of the facility and saw the impact of food distribution to the community. Congressman Soto spoke with a number of families about their situation and sought to get input regarding the upcoming Farm Bill.
Soto participated in the distribution of food to his constituents and spoke with a woman who had recently moved to Central Florida from Puerto Rico. She was thankful for places like St. Rose of Lima and expressed her concern for the condition of Puerto Rico.
Congressman Soto and Congresswoman Velazquez were able to see the rising number of food insecure families come through the doors of St. Rose of Lima. Osceola County food insecurity is one of the highest in the region and we are grateful to work with our Congressional members to provide policy opportunities for those truly in need.
