Fresh fruit, pantry boxes, essential non-food items, family night dinners and the Healthy, Informed, Playful Kids Club (HIP Kids), are all part of an effort to address immediate needs and solve long term challenges faced by hungry children.
Last year 9,600 fresh fruit after school snacks, 552 pantry boxes and 436 hot dinners were provided to “HIP” Kids and their families. Junior League also made it possible for 67 youngsters to receive holiday gifts.
This past August 31st, Junior League volunteers devoted over 300 hours packing pantry boxes at our Shader Road facility. This is just one example of the hours that Junior League members volunteer to Second Harvest every year.
Next month, Junior League’s Harvest Hustle 5K race will be held in Baldwin Park on Thursday, October 25th. Canned food items will be collected and donated to Second Harvest Food Bank. Click here to register and to learn more about the Harvest Hustle 5K >>
We are truly encouraged by Junior League’s commitment to focus on its stated core cause – Childhood Health, Hunger and Poverty.
We’d also like to thank HIP Kids Co-Chair Heather Mount for her close collaboration on this project.
