It’s been a Summer of positive changes since stepping into the Grocery Alliance Program Manager roll in May. I have to tell you the last 3 months have been a wonderful experience in meeting and learning about the many internal and external partners that make our Grocery Alliance retail rescue program among the top 10 in the nation.
My first order of business was to introduce myself to our Grocery Alliance Staff in the Orlando, Volusia and Brevard branches. Meeting each one of our 10 drivers and the warehouse staff has been a great experience in seeing firsthand how they interact with our grocery stores and play a big part in the partnerships we have. My weekly ride-along has been instrumental tool in the learning and being introduced to the process that our over 300 retail donors participate in.
In doing so, I have realized that the best part of my position is meeting each and every one who plays a part in providing the nutritious meat, dairy, fresh produce, and other products. They share important data, and I’m able to share stories of how these donations help our Central Florida neighbors in need.
It’s important for me to let every team member know that their time and effort makes an important difference, and that they are our hunger champions. To be that voice is not only personally rewarding but is what drives me to see our program reach more and more of the food insecure in the Central Florida area.
