The Journey at First Baptist Orange City recently hosted its first mobile food drop for neighbors in need in West Volusia on what turned out to be a very hot summer day.
The volunteers put a great deal of thought into the organization and setup of the distribution. As with any process, the idea is always to serve as many people as quickly as possible, especially in the heat. Instead of packing a box for each person, the team decided to have a volunteer walk with individuals to help them select the items they wanted or needed the most. This often creates a pleasant market atmosphere where people can choose food items for their families.
Kimberly was grateful, to say the least. “I am sure that was a lot of work to organize and I just want to send my appreciation. I just moved to Florida from Alaska and I am blown away by the kindness and generosity of the people in Central Florida.”
Thanks to the Journey, this new neighbor has a meal for tonight and hope for tomorrow.
