As the final school bell tolls for the 2018-19 academic year, families are grateful for your support over the last nine months. Your help has made every day a little easier for Latoya, a parent of three children at Ivey Lane Elementary in Orlando who are recipients of Hi-Five Kids Packs. In elementary schools where a large percentage of students receive free or reduced lunch, this program sends kids, like Latoya’s, home with a pack of shelf-stable food assembled by volunteers at Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.
“It helps a lot knowing my kids will be eating and that you will be providing them food,” explains Latoya.
Thanks to you, her kids have regular access to kid-friendly, nutritious foods on weekends throughout the school year and are ready to learn on Monday morning. This has made a big difference in her budget. Latoya’s number one priority is always her children, and though she may have to make tough decisions, she is thinking of her children first and foremost.
Of participants of the program polled recently, 91% agreed that the Hi-Five Kids Pack program stretched household dollars to be used for other critical family needs.
Latoya’s children are three of the 12,498 students who received a Hi-Five Kids Pack this school year thanks to donors like Darden Restaurants.
