Even the youngest children know how important it is to have a balanced diet and stay fed throughout the day, and the most powerful moments are when we hear about this impact directly from the source.
“The food we eat here helps us grow and is so good for us,” stated Rebecca as she ate her chicken fiesta bowl (rice, beans, chicken, and vegetables). Rebecca was very clear on the fact that this was one of her favorite meals from Second Harvest’s Summer Food Service Program so far!
Rebecca and her friends enjoyed their lunch while also talking about bananas, haircuts, and gymnastics. It reminded me of a typical first grade conversation from elementary school.
The only difference was that the food was kid-tested, healthy, and free.
Your help directly impacts Rebecca and her friends at Midway Safe Harbor, one of Second Harvest’s summer feeding sites. At these locations across six counties, children under 18 can receive hot, fresh meals when school is not in session so that they can spend summer vacation doing the things they love.
