Madeline is a shy first grader at a local elementary school. She loves the color pink and My Little Ponies. Sometimes her family doesn’t have enough food to eat.
Her friends at a YMCA after school program held a canned food drive this holiday season. Madeline sat in the audience when Second Harvest Food Bank came to thank the students and talk about where the food goes and who receives it.
The students raised their hands with ideas of who receives food. “The homeless,” answers one boy. “My grandma in Minnesota,” said another girl.
“My family goes to a church for food sometimes,” Madeline says. “The people there are really nice to us.”
As the conversation moves on, another student scoots across the bench to sit closer to Madeline and gives her a hug.
At Second Harvest Food Bank, we often say that food is love. Thanks to your recent gift of hope, the pantry shelves at our 550 feeding partners across Central Florida are able to distribute hope, love and food for families just like Madeline’s when they need it most. Thank you for providing hope to thousands in our community, especially during the holiday season.
