Recently one of our top 5 food donors, Long & Scott Farms, was chosen by the PBS show, America’s Heartland, to be spotlighted in a nationally aired segment showing the tremendous donation partnership we have developed. Long & Scott provides a vital source of nutritious produce donations to our food bank and food banks throughout Florida via the Florida Association of Food Banks produce program, Farmers Feeding Florida. This 6 minute video really does a great job of explaining to the public why this donation partnership make sense for farmers and the tremendous impact it has to our food bank and food banks throughout Florida.
Hank Scott, owner of Long & Scott Farms says something that stands out as a powerful statement that resonates with me; “You hate to see a crop you work so hard to grow, to go to waste… If you can get the leftovers, the stuff that’s not marketable, in the right hands where it can help people that are in need, that’s the greatest thing in the world, the greatest feeling in the world”.
