Winter Park Feed the Need Campaign

Patrick Chapin President/CEO of Winter Park Chamber of CommerceIn 2008, collaboration was born between the fraternities and sororities at Rollins College and Sodexo Food Services for a canned food drive to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. That first act of support raised over 3,700 pounds of food and sparked an initiative that has grown steadily over the years.  In 2010, when the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce got involved, the amount shot up to 16,000 pounds. The commitment by the Chamber and Rollins College continued to grow and, with the purchasing power of Sodexo Food Services, we were able to raise almost 31,000 pounds of food for those in need in 2012.

This year our collaboration and commitment will be extended to the community, for the first of its kind, Winter Park-wide effort to raise funds for Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. The Winter Park Chamber of Commerce and its partners, Rollins College, Sodexo, Think Creative and City of Winter Park, will lead the way as we break new ground in an effort to end hunger in Central Florida. Feed the Need, presented by Florida Distributing Co., Mayflower Retirement Community and Winter Park Memorial Hospital, is not your average food drive. Rather than collecting canned goods, local businesses, schools, non-profit organizations, churches and residents are coming together to reach a goal of raising $50,000 during the campaign from November 1 – 22. With collaboration, commitment and community I know we can accomplish our goal!
