Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and Advent Health are partnering on a pilot program to assist Type II Diabetic patients receive the diet-specific food that they need to manage their chronic illness. Patient referrals for this program will begin in October 2019. The entire duration of the program will run through December 2021.
Second Harvest is looking for volunteer delivery drivers ages 18 + that can commit for 6 months to help distribute food to patients who may experience barriers that prevent them from visiting a designated “healthy pantry.” The service area for this program will include Seminole, Orange and Osceola Counties.
Duties of the volunteer drivers are as follows:
- Work closely with Advent Health’s Community Care team(s) to be assigned patients to deliver food to (delivery schedule is on a bi-weekly basis)
- Pick-up food boxes and produce from participating pantries and deliver them to assigned patients
- Delivery days/times vary; morning and weekend opportunities are available
- Commit to a minimum of six months participation
