On April 28, 2017, Second Harvest Culinary Training Program held the graduation ceremony for Class 20, 21, and 22. During the graduation ceremony, certificates of completion were awarded to 24 students. Our commencement speaker was Chef Nora Galdiano from Sysco. Chef Nora reminded our graduates there is no easy road to success you must work hard but not forget to have fun. She pointed out to the importance of seeking out mentors and staying connected to people.
Graduate Astin Mayo shared her powerful and impacting story. She commented on the many difficulties and challenges she faced as a teenage mom left to raise not only her children but also her siblings. Astin thanked the instructors and program sponsors for their support of the program. She is currently working at Orlando Rescue Mission as a line cook and looking to a bright future.
Maricela Cedeno received the top student award. Since completing the program, Maricela has earned a good job with Encore at Reunion Resort, where she works hard and is learning new things every day. Over 125 guests, staff, family, and friends attended the ceremony to share in the success of our graduates. They all beamed with self-fulfillment and self-confident.
We are so proud of each of our students’ accomplishments and know that they will continue with even more successes.
