Second Harvest recently completed a successful “Mobile Resource Fair” in east Orange County. We did this in partnership with a group called “Table Sixty”, it includes the Winter Park Health Foundation, Catholic Charities, AARP, Seniors First, Senior Resource Alliance and UCF. The goal of the group is to address senior hunger; approximately one on five seniors are food insecure.
We could not have accomplished the fair without our gracious host, the Knights of Columbus, Council 2112. They provided the venue for the neighborhood to be invited to receive nutritious foods, a cooking demo and SNAP assistance. In total, 7,000 pounds of food was distributed by volunteers and staff. This type of mobile service worked so well that we are looking at doing more of it throughout Central Florida.
