Call to Action: Tell Congress No to Axing SNAP

Join anti-hunger advocates from across the country tomorrow, May 8th, from 9 AM-6 PM and tell Congress to vote NO on the Farm Bill. Last month, the Farm Bill passed out of committee and the House is expected to vote on it this month.

The Farm Bill includes huge cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Every day, SNAP puts food into the hands of 765,000 children, veterans and seniors in Central Florida and these cuts will result in an overwhelming burden to food banks like ours.

Local people rely on SNAP to provide 12 meals for every 1 meal Second Harvest provides – we cannot do this alone.

Congress wants to take an ax to SNAP which will end up hurting those that we have a responsibility to protect. We will not be able to cover the additional unmet need created by the cuts. Join anti-hunger advocates from across the country tomorrow, May 8th, from 9 AM-6 PM and tell Congress to vote NO on the Farm Bill.

We need to keep the phones ringing off the hook to stop this bill from advancing and punishing those who need our help. Two minutes can help prevent Central Floridians from going hungry.

Here are some sample talking points:

I am calling on behalf of Second Harvest Food Bank and live in Central Florida which the Representative serves.

I am deeply concerned about the Farm Bill released by the House. This bill will take food away from children, veterans and seniors and will make it more difficult for workers to find a job.

Our food bank will not be able to meet the increased need for food that these proposed SNAP cuts will create. It will increase hunger in my community.
